Prof. Irwin King is the Chair and Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

He received his B.Sc. degree in Engineering and Applied Science from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

Irwin King's research interests include machine learning, social computing, data mining, graph neural networks, and federated learning. In these research areas, he has over 350 technical publications in top journals and conferences. In addition, he has over 30 research and applied grants that resulted in seven patents worldwide.

He is the recipient of the 2021 INNS Dennis Gabor Award, ACM WSDM 2022 Test of Team Award, ACM SIGIR 2020 Test of Time Award, and ACM CIKM 2019 Test of Time Award for his work in social computing with machine learning.

He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Neural Networks, an IEEE Fellow, an INNS Fellow, and an ACM Distinguished Member. He also served as the President of the International Neural Network Society from 2019-2020.
