Thomas Trappenberg received a Ph.D. degree in physics from RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany. He held research positions at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada, the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Wako, Japan, and Oxford University, Oxford, U.K. He is currently a Full Professor of Computer Science and has authored the books entitled Fundamentals of Computational Neuroscience—Third Edition and Fundamental of Machine Learning. 

He is the co-founder of Nexus Robotics and ReelData. He is currently working on applying AI to several other areas including medical applications and oceanography. He has been a member of INNS since 1994 and currently serves as a member of their Board of Governors (2024-2026).
