International Neural Network Society (INNS) is a leading organization dedicated to the advancement of Neural Networks and related fields. The advancement of AI technologies, particularly the rise of Generative AI, offers transformative possibilities for making education more data-driven, inclusive, personalized, and adaptable. The AIE section aims to explore, develop, and promote the integration of AI technologies in educational settings to enhance learning experiences, personalize education, and improve educational outcomes. The section will focus on research, development, and dissemination of AI applications in education, fostering collaboration among educators, researchers, and technologists.

Objectives:

The primary objectives of the AIE section are:

  1. Research and Development: Conduct cutting-edge research on AI applications in education, including adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring, automated assessment, and data-driven educational insights.
  2. Collaboration and Networking: Foster collaboration among educators, AI researchers, technology developers, and policymakers to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions.
  3. Training and Professional Development: Provide training and resources for educators to effectively integrate AI tools into their teaching practices and enhance their pedagogical skills.
  4. Advocacy and Policy Development: Advocate for the ethical and equitable use of AI in education, influencing policy development to ensure AI technologies benefit all learners.
  5. Resource Hub: Create a centralized repository of AI in education resources, including research papers, case studies, tools, and implementation guides.

 

Structure and Governance

The AIE section will be structured to ensure effective governance and operational efficiency. Key components of the structure include:

  1. Chair: Professor Zenglin Xu, Harbin Institute of Technology, responsible for overall strategy and direction.
  2. Vice Chairs: Professor Danilo Mandic, Imperial College London; Danimir Mandic, Qingsong Wen, Squirrel AI; Irwin King, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
  3. Advisory Board: Comprising experts from academia, industry, and education sectors to provide strategic guidance and oversight.
  4. Research Committees: Specialized committees focusing on different aspects of AI in education, such as adaptive learning, ethical AI, and educational data analytics.
  5. Working Groups: Task-oriented groups responsible for specific projects, events, and initiatives.
  6. Membership: Open to educators, researchers, students, and professionals interested in AI and education, with different membership tiers to accommodate varying levels of involvement.
  7. Technical Coordinators: TBD

 

Activities and Initiatives

The AIE section will undertake a variety of activities and initiatives to achieve its objectives:

  1. Regular section meetings: Six-monthly Section meetings or online discussions will be held to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing among Section members.
  2. Conferences and Workshops: Organize annual conferences, workshops, and webinars to disseminate research findings, share best practices, and facilitate networking.
  3. Research Publications: Publish research papers, white papers, and reports on AI in education, contributing to the academic and professional discourse.
  4. Pilot Projects: Initiate and support pilot projects to test and evaluate AI tools in real educational settings, providing practical insights and feedback.
  5. Training Programs: Develop and deliver training programs, including online courses, seminars, and hands-on workshops for educators and administrators.
  6. Resource Development: Compile and curate resources, such as toolkits, implementation guides, and case studies, to support the integration of AI in educational practices.

 

Budget and Funding

The initial budget for the AIE section will cover administrative costs, research activities, events, and resource development. Funding will be sought through a combination of organizational support, grants, sponsorships, and membership fees. A detailed budget proposal will be developed to outline specific financial requirements and funding strategies.


 

Impact and Evaluation

The impact of the AIE section will be evaluated through regular assessments of its activities and outcomes. Key performance indicators (KPIs) will include the number of research publications, attendance at events, membership growth, and the implementation of AI tools in educational settings. Feedback from stakeholders will be gathered to continuously improve the section's initiatives and ensure alignment with its objectives.
